District Rifle Association Of Idukki (DRAI) is a sports association registered under the Travancore- cochin Literary , Scientific Charitable Societies Registration Act 1955 and under the Kerala Sports Act. DRAI is affiliated to Kerala State Rifle Association and the National Rifle Association of India.

About DRAI

DRAI, the God’s own shooting range is located in a picturesque landscape in the vicinity of the atchment area of the Malankara dam with the lush green mountains of the Western Ghats in the background in a sprawling two and a half acres of green land at Muttom . It’s hardly 7 Kms from Thodupuzha town and 60 kms from Ernakulam and Kottayam.

According to the Olympians and top officials ‘This is the most beautiful range in the world’. In the meeting presided over by Sri. K.Francis George, M.P on 27-09-2003 this Shooting range was inaugurated by Shri. Krishnamoorthy IPS (headquarters IG). ‘This is one of the most beautiful shooting ranges in the world ’- commented Dhronacharya awardee Prof.Sunny Thomas looking at the reservoir that is spread over miles and miles in front of the shooting range.”The climatic condition of this place is very congenial for training”, he added by recollecting his experiences in visiting nearly 60 countries all over the world with the shooters.

We hosted the All India G.V Mavalankar Shooting Championship on 9 th November 2005. Around 1500 competitors participated and thus the fame of DRAI began to spread all over India . DRAI in a very short span of its existence hosted the 52 nd National Shooting championship from 4 th January 2009 onwards and it was successfully completed with the participation of around 2000 competitors from all over India including Olympians, International and National shooters.

Three shooting ranges of international standard-50m Rifle range, 25m Pistol Range and 10m Indoor A/C shooting range .

Other Facilities

DRAI has a beautiful double storied building in the vicinity of Malankara Dam having A/C suit, A/C deluxe and NON A/C rooms with a delicious round the clock restaurant. DRAI offers well equipped A/C conference halls to cater to business meetings, conventions, private parties, formal banquets etc. There is also a functional business centre fitted with all requisite facilities.

Idukki district is also known as the high range. It is blessed with an abundance of panoramic beauty and lush greenery. It enjoys an envious reputation among the districts of Kerala. The tea plantations of Munnar and Vagamon attract many tourists. The sweeping beauty of this area can’t be described in mere words.

The rubber plantations, the panoramic beauty filled with streams, rivers and dense forests, hilly terrains, low lying lands etc .enhance the beauty of Idukki beyond description. Wild life sanctuary at Thekkady and Eravikulam are the most important tourist spots of its kind in India. It attracts a lot of tourists from around the world. Periyar and Aranyanivas in Thekkady are the two posh hotels with lodging facilities for the tourists. The misty hill station at Munnar is another important tourist spot of our district. The famous arch dam of the hydro electric power project is also situated at Idukki.
